In this highly interactive deep dive, participants will engage in empathy interviews and construct fishbone diagrams - two tools of improvement science - to develop an understanding of the factors impeding/supporting student mathematical success, all while avoiding the pitfalls of “solutionitis”. In addition, we will do some math together and experience strategies you can use to create a learning environment that supports a growth mindset and builds an inclusive mathematical community. Participants will leave with resources, inspiration and concrete next steps. This workshop is designed for math changemakers at all levels - teachers, school/district leaders and K-12 students.
