Our session will focus on principles of outdoor education, and how outdoor education experiences enhance deeper learning principles. We will frame our workshop with an activity that introduces comfort zone/ ZPD in learning, that highlight deeper learning principles (collaboration, communication), allowing us to enter into conversation about outdoor education can be a vehicle for deeper learning. We will all participate in outdoor education activity, debriefing in a meta-level throughout the process. We also hope include quotes from different seminal texts in outdoor education to further guide our conversation, and push our thinking about outdoor education/ nature in our schools. Our session is intended to highlight the benefits of outdoor education for all students, allow participants to experience it, and have time to work on developing activities to bring back to their school sites.
